Brother has been there in India for quite some time and has been manufacturing printing solutions for home and business users. Recently, they launched their mid-range printer based on LED technology for SMEs and SOHOs. The HL-3150CDN is a colour LED printer that is network capable. LED technology makes it faster and develops less wear and tear.

Setting up the printer is pretty easy, it can either be connected via USB cable to the PC or via network on LAN. The printer comes with 4 individual toners of CMYK that needs to be installed from the top and fits in their respective slots by pushing them.

In terms of operating the printer, Brother had provided a power on/off button on the left side of the printer. There is also a single line LCD (non-backlit) that displays the status of the printer.

The printer is not that large, but pretty heavy. With gray and white colour body, the HL-3150CDN also features auto-duplex printing, meaning printing on both the sides of the paper to save cost.

Targeting to SOHOs, SMEs and small workgroups, the paper storage capacity is of 250-sheets and there is also a manual feed tray that can be used to print single sheets of paper. The HL-3150CDN lacks a front USB port or memory card, this is probably to keep the costs down.

In terms of quality of the output and performance. The HL-3150CDN does not disappoint. For the printer in this range it is pretty decent. Although the first print out time could have been improved. The printer reproduced both, colour and B/W prints very crisp. Colours were slightly on the darker side.

Another interesting thing is the support for printing from mobile devices. With the help of iPrint&Scan app available on Android and iOS, users can print documents and images from their mobile devices. The one requirement with this feature is that the printer should be registered on the Google Cloud Print service.

The printer is priced at Rs. 22,900 and though businesses have few options in the price range, Brother’s offering differentiates on the affordable cost – which is a must for small organizations – along with the ability of printing wirelessly from a mobile device.
