Hybrid drives that fuses SSD together with HDD have been available for quite some time but this arrangement was mostly with a small-capacity SSD and HDD used for storing heaps of data. WD however is trying to change the trend with the WD Black2 dual drive. WD integrates a 2.5-inch 120GB SSD along with a 1TB HDD and fits in a conventional 9.5mm slot.
WD says the dual drive offers improved performance, reliability and even the flexibility to the users to choose how and where the data should be stored. Moreover, the drive is free of caching algorithms, 6Gb/s SATA interface support and a legacy SATA connector ensuring compatibility with operating systems from Windows XP to Windows 8.1.
WD has not announced the pricing for the Indian market but it will be covered by a 5-year limited warranty whenever it comes.
