Samsung’s Electro-Mechanics subsidiary has confirmed that they’ve created a new camera sensor that will improve picture quality with better shake tolerance and low-light performance. The new module – small enough to fit in most smartphones – can shoot images to up to 13 megapixel in resolution and has the ability to correct an angular error to up to 1.5 degrees. Samsung notes this correction angle is more than double of what most basic digital cameras offer these days which results in a blur-free sharp picture.
Additionally, the low-light performance of this sensor is 8 times better than any other 13MP sensor, supports full HD video recording and consumes less power.
The camera module will hit mass production in first half of 2014.
