There’s no denying that during BlackBerry’s heydays, BBM was one of the most loved service. It still is but the impact that BBM had before is definitely less these days due to the rise of Whatsapp, Wechat, LINE etc.
Now according to a report by Wall Street Journal, BlackBerry is considering to spin off BBM into a subsidiary. Their sources say the new subsidiary will be known as BBM Inc. and will give the service “more independence” to move forward.
With an autonomous management, BBM Inc. will enable the service to add more features and expand availability to other platforms.
Earlier this year, BlackBerry had announced to bring the service to Android and iOS platform but we’re yet to see BBM on any of the platforms.
Report further claims, BlackBerry will introduce “Twitter-like tool” called BBM Channels for brands and celebrities and a desktop client.
