Big news coming out of Finland today as Nokia has announced a number of changes in order to return to profitability. Nokia’s new “sharpened strategy” will involve shutting down factory and research and development projects and more importantly lay off 10,000 employees across various positions.
Nokia also announced changes in the leadership team with Jerri DeVard, Mary McDowell and Niklas Savander stepping down from their respective positions whereas appoint Juha Putkiranta as executive vice president of Operations; Timo Toikkanen as executive vice president of Mobile Phones; Chris Weber as executive vice president of Sales and Marketing; Tuula Rytila as senior vice president of Marketing and Chief Marketing Officer; and Susan Sheehan as senior vice president of Communication.
