Marvell has created a new Applications Processor that makes dual-core 1.5GHz CPUs kind of old. They’ve created ARMADA 628 which is the world’s first System-on-Chip (SoC) tri-core processor running at 1.5GHz.
The ARMADA 628 is targeted at high-end smartphones and tablets and touts impressive performance with low power consumption and longer battery life.
Marvell says the CPU integrates two high performance symmetric multiprocessing cores and a third core optimized for ultra-low power. The CPU is capable of delivering dual stream 1080p 3D video, graphics with quad unified shaders for 200 million triangles per second, USB 3.0 support and battery life of up to 10 hours of full HD video or 140 hours of audio.
The ARMADA 628 is now available for sampling to device manufacturers.
