Windows OS predominantly supports x86 architecture, so a denial from Microsoft to not support ARM processor based Smartbooks is not surprising.
Steve Guggenheimer at the Computex said “For people who want a PC, albeit a different chipset, we don’t think those will work very well. We sort of learnt in the last year that if it looks like a PC and acts like a PC, people want the features and benefits of a PC.”
This basically leaves ARM-based smartbooks with couple of OS options – either run Linux or Google’s Android.
Smartbook is a term for devices that sits in between a pocketable smartphone and a netbook. Smartbooks boast instant-on, always-on connectivity.
