It’s the same corporate politics that we see in most of the companies. The tale or rather an article in the Taiwanese edition of Business Today discusses about what’s going wrong with Asus. The article says that last quarter loss cannot alone be blamed to the low consumer demand. Another contributor to the loss was the clash between Johnny Shih and Tung Tsu Hsien that resulted into a split of Brand and the OEM business of Asustek. Johnny Shih took over Asus and Tung Tsu Hsien steered the OEM business under the name of Pegatron. The article also mentions about Hsien showing interest in the brand business which could somehow give rise to a new competitor for Asus.
Another point of concern for Asus is Hsien’s management style. He treats his employees well and this made most of the talented people from the R&D and Industrial department leave Asus and join Pegatron.
Overall, it makes an interesting read which also sheds more light on the inclusion Shih’s close friend, share transfers to important people to refrain from getting poached by Pegatron and the ongoing power struggle within the top management.
