Solar Neck Tie will charge your gadgets

August 19, 2008 By Kunal Gangar 2 Comments

The world is suddenly caring for the environment. Researchers at Iowa University have developed a Neck Tie made up of solar fabric. The fabric actually embeds solar panels in a grid which from a distance looks like a well etched out design.

The person doesn’t have to remove his tie every time he wants to charge a gadget because the 3.6V plug is sewn right within the tie which is placed at the back in a pouch. Now if the weight of the gadget didn’t droop the tie, I would consider it.

To be fair, I’ve seen ties a lot worse than that in various offices I’ve worked in – as long as it doesn’t have a cartoon character on it I’m in!

Seriously though, whilst these type of solar products are seen as gimmicks, at least any publicity around them raises awareness with people about solar energy, and that it isn’t just about having solar panels on your roof.

    Thanks for the article.

How about a whole solar coat. It makes more sense since the coat could keep you cool in the summer because all the heat and light goes to the solar cells. You could run an air conditioning line to your underwear to keep your butt cool. The compressor could be in your hat. The condenser in your armpit. No need to tie a coat. A coat will adjust to being a hot coat or a cool coat depending on if the solar cells are in their convenient pockets sort of like an external lining. Plug in the optional pants, and now you have propulsion units that actually cause you to robotically walk. Control it all with the datat port by your laptop computer.
