Sun Microsystems Inc. released the Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 which was code-named Tiger. Its an upgrade of its programming language with more than 100 new features designed to give the developer ease of use, performance and scalability, and desktop development.
Sun officials claim that J2SE 5.0 have the most significant enhancements to the Java development platform and language since the first release almost a decade ago. They also said that developers won’t have to wait another 10 years for Tiger’s successor. Sun provided a sneak-peek at J2SE 6.0 code-named Mustang. It is scheduled to be available in the spring of 2006, Mustang will feature increased performance and added support for XML and Web services.
