The group called Blu-ray Disc Founders approved the the High Capacity Disc on Wednesday. Blu-ray Discs can store upto five times more data than an ordinary DVD but at the same cost.
Blu-ray is named so because it uses the blue laser as of the normal DVD which uses red laser for reading and recording and can store upto 25 GB of data in a single-layered disc.
This group comprises of 13 members which includes the leading names in computing like Sony, DELL, Hewlett Packard. The Blu-ray Discs are expected to hit the market by the end of 2005.
