UPDATE: We’ve heard from Gionee India who says the phone will be launched in early November and not next month.
Gionee has announced that its slimmest smartphone in the world – Elife S5.1 will be available in select countries from October. Recognised as the world’s slimmest phone by Guinness World Records, the Elife S5.1 is just 5.15mm thin and beats Gionee’s previous slimmest phone Elife S5.5 by 0.45 millimeters. The phone features magnesium alloy metal rim, Gorilla Glass protection at the front and back for enhanced durability, curved edge design and thinner bezel.
On the hardware side, the Elife S5.1 supports LTE (China only), TRU Octa-core 1.7GHz CPU (Quad core 1.2GHz CPU for China), 1GB RAM, 8 megapixel rear camera, 5.0MP front-facing camera, 16GB internal memory with no expandable memory slot, DTS audio support and 2050mAh battery.
The phone will run Amigo OS 2.0 based on Android 4.4 and will even have features like pocket mode to avoid of mis-touch, gesture control, real time camera effects and more.
No word on the price but the Gionee will release the international variant first in India in October followed by Vietnam, Philippines, Myanmar, Nigeria and other markets.
