We reviewed the Epson EH-TW5200 back in March and today we take a look at its elder sibling – EH-TW8200. This projector is targeted at home theatre users but does it deliver to be the ultimate home theatre solution? Let’s find out.
The design of EH-TW8200 is simple and streamlined. The lens on the front features an automatic lens shutter that protects it from dust and vents placed alongside the lens dissipate the heat without interrupting the user with the heat or noise. The input ports – two HDMI, Component, VGA, RS-232C – are placed at the back, control buttons on the side that can be concealed with the protective sliding cover and the manual lens shift control is on the top. The horizontal and vertical lens shift sliders help to setup the projector with ease in difficult installation environments.
As for the projection, the EH-TW8200 can project images to up to 300-inch on any wall and boasts 3LCD 3-chip technology that enables a good colour and white brightness (2400 lumens). The EH-TW8200 also allows users to adjust the picture settings with a touch of a button and features a dynamic contrast ratio of 6,00,000:1, resulting in deep blacks.
The EH-TW8200 supports Full HD 3D playback and unlike EH-TW5200 that needed an additional investment to watch 3D, the EH-TW8200 is bundled with a pair of 3D glasses. The glasses use RF technology, are pretty lightweight and needs to be charged with the microUSB cable (bundled). The 3D experience is really good on the projector. It utilizes a 480Hz panel that enables a smooth 3D playback and can even convert existing 2D content to 3D. The live 3D effect conversion of the content can be adjusted with the remote control.
The project also features Picture in Picture (PIP) support that can project two images – one small image on the corner of the screen along with the main source image.
All said and done, EH-TW8200 excels in its projection ability but one thing that makes us wonder is why Epson left out the content playback over USB, which could have proved a useful feature to home theatre users. Nevertheless, the EH-TW8200 is a balanced product that fulfills on its promise.
It retails for Rs. 2,55,000.
