It seems Truecaller has got some competition from the Android maker itself. If you go through Android KitKat’s feature page, it confirms of a new feature – smarter caller ID – that shows the name of an unknown number. Currently, the feature is limited to businesses with number matching sourced from Google Maps’ local listing. Now Google has confirmed that the same feature will be extended to normal users.
The feature will be activated in early 2014 and will show off the names and Google Profile photos for users who have turned discovery on. This seems to be similar to how Truecaller works, which means users will have to manually opt-out to refrain their number from showing up in the list.
Check the Google settings link below to see if you have discovery turned on.
