In addition to the Nexus 5 that comes with Android 4.4 pre-installed, Google also confirmed the roll out of the new Android update for existing devices. Devices like Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (2012 and 2013 editions), Nexus 10, HTC One and Galaxy S4 Google Play editions will receive the Android 4.4 KitKat update in the coming weeks. There’s no confirmed date for the roll out.
Google has left out Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus smartphone saying the device is out of the 18-month software support window.
Android 4.4 improves on a lot of fronts like memory management, voice search, faster multitasking, caller ID that scans through the database of Google Maps in case of an unknown caller, infrared port support, faster home screen switching, low-power audio playback, step counting etc.
