Microsoft at a press conference announced the new generation of Surface tablets. The tablets – Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 run Windows RT 8.1 and Windows 8.1 Pro respectively and builds on the existing Surface tablets with improved processing power, battery life, camera resolution and lots more.
Surface 2 is powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 4 CPU that promises up to 10 hours of video playback. The tablet sports a 10.6-inch ClearType Full HD display and comes with USB 3.0 port, a 3.5 megapixel front-facing camera with 5 megapixel back facing camera, Microsoft Office 2013 RT and 32GB and 64GB options.
The Surface 2 will start from $449 and will go on pre-order from tomorrow with a release date set for October 22.
The Surface Pro 2 is a full fledged Windows 8.1 tablet that is powered by the fourth generation Core i5 processor and up to 60 percent longer battery life. Microsoft will sell the Surface Pro 2 from $899 and will be offered in 64GB and 128GB storage options with 4GB of RAM and 256GB and 512GB of option with 8GB of RAM.
The tablet will also go on pre-order from tomorrow and release on October 22. The 22 initial markets includes Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States on Oct. 22 and China in early November.
Microsoft also revealed a plethora of Surface 2 accessories like the Touch Cover 2, Type Cover 2, Power Cover, Docking Station for Surface Pro, Wireless Adapter for Typing Covers, Car charger with USB and Arc Touch Mouse Surface Edition.
Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 buyers will also get unlimited Skype WiFi calling to landlines for one year and 200GB of SkyDrive storage for two years.
