Nvidia started taking pre-orders of their maiden handheld gaming console in May. Now Nvidia has announced that the SHIELD will sell for $299 instead of the $349 that was originally planned. The console will initially be available in US and Canada and will ship by end of this month. For a $299 asking price, a consumer will get a Silver Lid, AC adapter, USB cable, 2 games – Expendable: Rearmed and Sonic 4 Episode II THD in addition to the main console.
The Nvidia SHIELD takes advantage of the Tegra 4 processor and features a console-grade controller, 5-inch 720p display, Wi-Fi, PC-gaming support, quad-core Tegra 4 CPU and 2GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, GPS, Bluetooth 3.0, mini-HDMI out, microSD card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack and Jelly Bean Android OS.
The SHIELD’s price cut before the actual release could be due to lukewarm pre-order response but nevertheless, it’s a welcome news for users who were waiting to pick up the first Tegra 4 powered console.
