AMD unveils world’s first 5GHz processor

And we thought the world has moved on from the clock speed race! AMD just announced the commercial availability of the world’s first CPU to break the 5GHz clock speed. AMD claims the FX-9000 Series CPUs boast “new levels of gaming and multimedia performance” with 8-cores and “Piledriver” architecture. The CPU also supports AMD Turbo Core 3.0 that dynamically optimises performance across CPU cores.

The AMD FX CPUs will be available this summer and will have two SKUs – 5GHz FX-9590 and 4.7GHz 9370.
