What Sony couldn’t do a few months back Microsoft did today – show off their new console. Microsoft at an event in Redmond unveiled their new Xbox gaming console called as Xbox One. The Xbox One is touted as an all-in-one console that is revamped on all fronts – the console design, controller as well as the UI.
Xbox One now supports voice commands that not only allow you to control the console but also control the Live TV. There’s a new Home dashboard as well as instant switching that allows seamless switching between the game, live TV or even apps. The new console also supports Snap Mode, similar to Windows 8 that allows to snap two apps on a single screen.
On the hardware front, Xbox One uses a custom built 8-core CPU, 500GB HDD, 8GB RAM and a Blu-ray drive, which was absent in the previous iteration of the Xbox since Microsoft clung to the DVD drive and a competing format known as HD-DVD. There’s also USB 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11n, a new Kinect sensor with a 1080p wide-angle camera and an improved Xbox controller that boasts 40 changes for a better gaming experience.
Microsoft also demoed some games for the Xbox One but is leaving majority of them for showcase during the E3 that begins next month.
The pricing and availability is also expected around the E3 gaming expo.
