Toshiba has announced a new CMOS imaging sensor for point-and-shoot digital cameras. The TCM5115CL is a 20 megapixel that claims to offer the highest resolution in the 1/2.3-inch format and features backside illumination technology (BSI) that improves picture quality in low-light scenarios.
Furthermore, the sensor is capable of capturing HD videos even at higher frame rates of 60fps at 1080p and 100fps at 720p resolution.
Toshiba will begin sampling the sensor in late January 2013 whereas the mass production will start from August 2013.
