Apple has publicly responded to the iPhone 5 camera issue that produced a purple flare in some of the captured photos. Apple says the haze captured by the iPhone is not a manufacturing or a software defect but is due to the light source placed at an angle – outside the field of view – causing a reflection.
Apple also suggests a possible solution that can be done by changing the camera angle “to change the position at which the bright light is entering the lens, or shielding the lens with your hand, should minimize or eliminate the effect.”
