Idea Cellular has expanded its 3G mobile phones offering with the addition of new Aurus handset. Aurus is an OEM device from Alcatel and will be sold on Idea for an affordable price of Rs. 7,190.
Despite a low price tag, Aurus is spec’d similarly to Samsung’s Galaxy Ace and features an 800MHz processor, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, 3.5-inch capacitive HVGA touchscreen display, Android 2.3 OS, dual-SIM functionality, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, 1300mAh battery, a 4GB bundled microSD card but can be expanded up to 32GB and a 3MP camera that interpolates to produce images of up to 5MP.
The phone will also get incentives from Idea, which on a recharge of Rs. 260, will receive 2GB of 3G data and Idea TV free of charge for the first three months.
We also got some time to play with the device and we’re happy to report the first impression is good. The phone is responsive and feels good in the hands with the matte finish at the back giving a good grip. The phone runs the stock Android 2.3 UI with some subtle changes, like the active SIM can be changed directly from the notifications center. The noise level is evident when an image is captured at 5MP that uses interpolation but captures decent images when shot in the actual 3MP resolution.
