Microsoft just confirmed that its upcoming Windows 8 OS has reached the released to manufacturing (RTM) milestone. This means the development of the OS is complete and the code is now being delivered to OEM partners to gear up for the retail release.
Microsoft also confirmed dates as to when customers can get an early access to the OS. Developers with MSDN subscription or IT professionals with TechNet access will be able to download their copy starting from August 15 followed by customers with Microsoft Software Assurance, Partner Network members, Microsoft Action Pack Providers and Volume License customers.
Consumer release is scheduled on October 26 and will go for $39.99 for an upgrade or $14.99 to upgrade from an eligible Windows 7 PC bought recently.
