HTC may acknowledge their promise of unlocking bootloaders of their phones but it seems HTC is playing a sly game with consumers. An update to their original Facebook post reveals that the unlock process will have to be user initiated and may void warranty if you do it. HTC says unlocking the bootloader “provides extensive control over the device and modifications may cause operation, security and experience issues” and will need a user intervention on the web-based tool that requires to accept legal disclaimers saying unlocking may void all or parts of the warranty.
HTC wants to make sure the unlocking process is meant for developers and enthusiasts, which is why a consumer will get a locked bootloader with the shipped device.
The tool will be released this month for global variant of Sensation which will be followed by Sensation 4G on T-Mobile and EVO 3D on Sprint.
