It’s not that we’re seeing this device for the first time but Samsung has officially acknowledged the previously known Galaxy Z as Galaxy R. Galaxy R is an under spec’d Galaxy S II with a more affordable price tag. Except for the metallic back as compared to Galaxy S II’s plasticky one, rest of the features are lower than the flagship phone.
The Galaxy R comes with a 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor, 4.19-inch WVGA Super Clear LCD, Android 2.3 OS, 5MP camera with LED flash and 720p HD video recording support, 1.3MP front-facing camera, full HD video playback, Social / Readers / Music / Game Hub support, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, 8GB internal memory and microSD card supporting up to 32GB.
There’s no word on the price but expect it to be cheaper than Galaxy S II. Samsung says expect the phone in late July but since we’re just a couple days away from ending the month, a realistic date would be sometime in early August.
