HTC today announced their acquisition of the S3 Graphics for a sum of $300 million. It’s unclear what will HTC do with the company that predominantly makes graphics chips for computers but it seems the Taiwanese company is more interested in S3′s portfolio of 235 patents.

HTC has been on a buying spree off late buying Saffron Digital, a mobile-platform company and OnLive Inc. that deals with on-demand games.
