Samsung will launch its first ever Chromebook in Europe tomorrow. The Series 5 notebook runs on Google’s Chrome OS and will be available in UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain and Italy from tomorrow carrying a price tag of €399 for the Wi-Fi model (£349 in the UK) and €449 for the 3G-enabled model (£399 in the UK).
The Chromebook concentrates on three main features – Simplicity, Speed and Security. The ergonomic design combined with the interface of the Chrome OS makes it easy to use. A regular notebook takes around 45 seconds to boot but Samsung’s Chromebook is able to boot under 10 seconds. Finally on the security front, Chrome OS provides layers of protection like sandboxing, encryption and verified boot that makes difficult for malware and viruses to penetrate easily.
Hardware-wise, the Chromebook features a 12.1-inch screen with 1280×800 display and 300 nits of brightness, Intel dual-core Atom processor, Wi-Fi, 3G support, webcam, USB ports, 4-in-1 card reader, mini-VGA port, fully clickable trackpad and 8.5 hours of battery life.
