Here’s the official confirmation. Microsoft has announced to buy Skype for $8.5 billion in cash, making it the most expensive acquisition from Microsoft till date. Microsoft says the buyout will “increase the accessibility of real-time video and voice communications, bringing benefits to both consumers and enterprise users and generating significant new business and revenue opportunities.”
Microsoft also plans to tie Skype services to other Microsoft platforms like Xbox, Kinect, Windows Phone etc. and most importantly, will continue to innovate and support on non-Microsoft platforms like iOS, Android, Mac.
