Research in Motion is laying all apprehensions to rest by confirming that its PlayBook tablet is a “great standalone tablet” and is not “reliant on a BlackBerry.” This is good news for consumers who were worried about PlayBook’s functionality being crippled without a Blackberry phone. Of course, a Blackberry phone will be needed to sync calendar, contacts list, memos and corporate email but the PlayBook will run just fine like any other Wi-Fi-enabled tablet.
Ryan Bidan, Senior Product Manager at RIM says Playbook is a “solid, Wi-Fi-enabled tablet in its own right.”
Having played with the PlayBook early this month, I can safely say it will be one of the few tablets to look out for in 2011.
