The Home Ministry has now expressed its national security concern over 3G service and has ordered all the operators to provide lawful interception of their 3G network before going public with the service. Although private operators are expected to roll out their 3G services early next year, this directive also includes government-owned BSNL and MTNL who has been operating their 3G services for quite some time.
Last week, the telecom department directed BSNL and MTNL to allow interception of 3G voice and data services on their network within 15 days or close down the service.
“Till a solution is arrived in this regard, all telecom service providers may kindly be directed not to provide 3G services, particularly in J&K,” said the statement issued by Home Ministry.
