Canon’s head of Image Communication Products, Masaya Maeda confirmed that they’re looking to compete in the compact DSLR market. Maeda said that many companies are making mid-range mirrorless cameras and Canon would also like go head-to-head with them by offering a compact camera of its own.
However, it is not certain if the new Canon camera will feature a mirrorless design or not. Maeda says “it’s not a question of whether or not you have a mirror. There is a consumer need for good-quality cameras to be made smaller and we will meet this need.”
Samsung, Sony, Olympus and Panasonic are the few ones selling a compact mirrorless camera.
