Well, it is bound to happen someday but Boy Genius Report has supposedly got the mitts about how it will be possible since FaceTime requires a phone number to dial. Apparently, all non-iPhone devices will be able to receive or call a FaceTime call by using an Apple ID, in this case, your email address. Users will need to key in another user’s email address to initiate a FaceTime call.
However, BGR says a call from say, an iPod touch to iPhone will still require the user to put in user’s cellular number, in addition to the email address.
The exact timeframe is unknown at the moment but expect this feature to go live somewhere near September when Apple will launch a new iPod touch, mostly with a camera.
