Last week, Apple released a statement regarding iPhone 4’s reception problem. Apple acknowledges that although it is normal for a phone to drop couple of bars when a consumer holds a phone, iPhone 4’s bar drops are not normal.
The problem apparently, is how the iPhone calculates to show the signal strength. Apple says their formula for calculating signal strength is flawed that shows 2 or more bars than the actual signal strength is. In fact, the calculation for the signal strength was flawed since their first iPhone.
However, to fix this, Apple has announced to adopt AT&T’s recommended formula and will issue a software update within a few weeks.

What rubbish! How can Apple get away with deception like this! The Youtube video that clearly shows the data transmission performance degrading when the phone is held shows unequivocally that this is a physical design problem.
A phone that does not work as a phone when you hold it in a perfectly normal way is NOT a phone.
Yes – other phones do vary in signal strength depending on how you hold them and where you are BUT I have never seen any other phone with such a clear and replicable FAULT – because that is what it is.
Apple should recall all these phones, give everyone their money back and re-issue them when they have fixed the design problem.
