Sony is showing off a new rollable display at the SID 2010 expo. The flexible display measures 4.1-inch in size and is just 80 um-thick, capable enough to be wrapped around a thin circular object.
To create the display, Sony first developed organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) with an original organic semiconductor material – a peri-Xanthenoxanthene (PXX) derivative – and then the newly created OTFT was integrated with OLED on an ultra-thin 20 um thick flexible substrate that eventually allowed to display moving images even when being rolled up.
The 4.1-inch display has a resolution of 121ppi (432×240) with 16.8M colors and a contrast ratio of 1000:1.
