NTT DOCOMO, Renesas Electronics Corporation, Fujitsu Limited, NEC Corporation, Panasonic Mobile and Sharp Corporation have joined hands together to develop a common application platform that will help to improve processing speeds for video and improved renderings of 3D graphics. The companies deem developing a common platform will allow them to reduce development costs for application processing and invest more resources in development of specific handset features.
The platform is currently compatible with Symbian and Linux OS while Android compatibility is under review. First phones with the new platform are expected in the late 2011.
