SSDs and netbooks aren’t the best of friends but Intel’s trying to change it with the introduction of X25-V Value SSDs. Intel reckons this 40GB X25-V SSD could help netbook users in terms of performance or work as a dual-drive setup for desktop users for an affordable price.
The new SSDs are based on 34nm NAND flash memory and supports SATA interface. It is touted to be 4 times faster than a 7,200RPM HDD and 43 percent faster in a dual-drive environment. In addition to performance gain, SSD gives power savings and rugged features due to no moving parts.
The X25-V will be sold to PC manufacturers for $125 per 1000 units.
