PS3

The depreciating South Korean Won against Japanese Yen has cropped up a unique problem amongst the Japanese manufacturers. The companies are facing the issue of reverse importing, which means Korean imported good from Japan are imported back to Japan at lesser price. One of the major companies hit by this phenomena is Sony which is why they have stopped supplying PS3 units to South Korean dealers.

Japanese tourists used to take advantage of this situation since the PS3 in South Korea costs 448,000 KRW (31,033 JPY) while it goes for 39,900 JPY (576,013 KRW) in Japan.

Sony is currently contemplating to raise the console price to match its Japanese counterpart. I don’t know if this will go well down with Korean PS3 gamers.
