LG Display has announced a new 14.1-inch TFT-LCD panel that works effectively under direct sunlight by using the sunlight as the source of illumination. The display benefits from LG’s Backlight Data Signal Switching Technology which switches the display output from transmissive mode i.e. used in indoors to reflective mode for outdoor usage. This transition is done on the go with the help of a button placed on the laptop.
An average laptop screen uses more than 75 percent of the battery juice and display content at a contrast ratio of 2:1 or 3:1 while using outdoors. However with this display from LG, not only the display will consume only one fourth of energy but also display content with a contrast ratio exceeding 9:1.
LG plans this display to be showcased at the CES along with its other display technologies like motion picture response time (MPRT), eco-friendly displays and more.
