We all know Apple takes its own sweet time to launch its services and it seems Apple users in India will finally be able to use Apple Pay later this year. According to multiple reports by Indian publications, Apple is preparing to launch its Apple Pay digital payment service in India by the end of 2026. Apple Pay is currently operational in 89 markets globally and could very well bolster Apple Pay’s usage, considering Apple’s rising market share in the Indian market.
Despite the move toward a launch, the service remains contingent on a series of regulatory approvals from Indian authorities. Apple has previously explored entering the Indian market but has faced challenges navigating local data localization requirements and the dominance of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
As per the report, the India rollout is expected to lead with Appleās “Tap to Pay” feature that will allow merchants to accept contactless payments directly from an iPhone. The UPI integration could come at a later stage as it requires an additional series of regulatory approvals.
