India’s PC Market Hits Record Heights in Q3 2024: A Deep Dive into Market Trends

December 6, 2024 By News Team Leave a Comment

Personal Computer
The Indian personal computing landscape has reached a remarkable milestone in the third quarter of 2024, with the market shipping an impressive 4.49 million units, marking a slight 0.1% year-over-year growth. This achievement comes against a backdrop of nuanced market dynamics, where different segments and brands have played pivotal roles in shaping the industry’s performance.

Market Breakdown: Segments and Growth

While the desktop category experienced a decline of 8.1%, notebooks and workstations showed resilience with marginal growth of 2.8% and 2.4% respectively. The online festival sales proved to be a significant driver, particularly for premium notebooks priced above US$1,000, which saw a robust 7.6% year-over-year growth.

The market’s performance was characterized by distinct segment behaviors. The consumer segment witnessed a 2.9% decline, despite aggressive discounting strategies from vendors. In contrast, the commercial segment demonstrated strength, growing by 4.4%, with the enterprise segment showing an even more impressive 9.6% growth.

Brand Performance and Strategies

HP Inc. emerged as the market leader, capturing a substantial 29% market share. The company’s success was particularly notable in both commercial and consumer segments, with shares of 34.3% and 24.8% respectively. HP’s notebook shipments reached 1.05 million units, marking its third-largest quarter ever, driven by strong enterprise performance and festive season consumer demand.

Lenovo secured the second position with a 17.3% market share, leveraging key enterprise orders and a strong Small and Medium Business (SMB) segment presence. The brand also made significant strides in the gaming notebook market and e-tail channels during festival sales.

Dell Technologies and Acer Group tied for the third position, both holding a 14.6% market share. While Dell maintained a strong commercial segment presence, Acer saw impressive growth through education projects and enterprise orders. Notably, Acer’s consumer segment experienced a remarkable 38% year-over-year surge during festive sales.

Asus rounded out the top five with a 9.7% market share, despite a 22.3% year-over-year decline. The brand maintained a strong second position in the consumer segment behind HP and showed growth in the commercial sector.

Future Outlook

Industry experts are optimistic about the future. Navkendar Singh from IDC predicts a recovery in the Commercial PC Market as enterprises begin refreshing their IT devices. The IT and ITES sectors are expected to drive purchasing momentum in 2025. Additionally, the growing interest in gaming, content creation, and AI-enabled features is anticipated to propel the consumer segment in the fourth quarter of 2024 and throughout 2025.

The Indian PC market’s resilience, innovative vendor strategies, and emerging technological trends paint an exciting picture for the industry’s future. As digital transformation continues to accelerate, the personal computing landscape stands poised for continued growth and innovation.
