Apple announced the latest iteration of its iconic iMac all-in-one desktop computer. The new iMac is powered by Apple’s latest in-house M4 chip, which the company claims offers up to 1.7x faster performance for daily productivity tasks and up to 2.1x faster performance for more demanding workloads like photo editing and gaming, compared to the previous M1-powered iMac.
The M4 chip also includes a more powerful Neural Engine, making the new iMac well-suited for AI-powered applications and integrations.Alongside the hardware upgrades, the new iMac introduces Apple Intelligence – the company’s new personal AI assistant and suite of intelligent features. These include writing tools for text refinement, an enhanced Siri assistant, and creative tools like image generation and custom emoji creation.
Apple touts Apple Intelligence’s tight integration with the Mac experience while also emphasizing its privacy-focused approach, with on-device processing and optional access to Apple’s cloud-based AI models.
Aesthetically, the new iMac line sports a fresh array of color options, including green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. It also introduces a new nano-texture glass display option, which aims to reduce glare and reflections.
Other upgrades include a 12MP “Center Stage” camera for enhanced video calls, Thunderbolt 4 connectivity, and a revamped macOS Sequoia operating system with features like improved window management and gaming optimizations.
Pricing and Availability
The new iMac with M4 chip starts at Rs. 134,900 for the base model and will be available for pre-order on October 28, with in-store availability beginning November 8. Higher-end configurations with a 10-core CPU and GPU start at Rs. 154,900.
Overall, the latest iMac refresh appears to bring significant performance gains, intelligent software integrations, and a fresh design aesthetic to Apple’s iconic all-in-one desktop.
