After launching the budget phone, Redmi 8A, Xiaomi has expanded its Redmi Series with the Redmi 8. Featuring the Snapdragon 439 processor, the phone comes in 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB storage option. There is a dedicated memory card slow that supports up to 512GB microSD card. It features a 6.22-inch HD+ display with a waterdrop style notch. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 5.
Redmi 8 has dual rear cameras, the main camera is 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 sensor and a 2-megapixel depth sensor with f/1.8 Aperture and 1.4 Pixel Size. The camera also has a dual phase-detection AI portrait mode, and an AI scene detection. The front camera is 8-megapixel. The phone has a rear fingerprint scanner below the cameras.
Redmi 8 comes with a 5000mAh battery and supports 18W fast charging. However, Xiaomi bundles a 10W charger in the retail box. It uses a Type-C charging port. The phone also features wireless FM Radio. Redmi 8 is P2i certified, hence it is splash resistant.
Redmi 8 comes in three colours, Onyx Black, Ruby Red, and Sapphire Blue. Xiaomi has given the rear of Redmi 8 an Aura Wave Grip design which looks good.
The price for a 3GB variant is Rs. 7,999, and the 4GB RAM variant is priced at Rs. 8,999. However, to celebrate the 100 million sales of Xiaomi phones in India, Redmi 8 4GB variant can be purchased for Rs. 7,999. This is valid only for the first 5 million orders.
The first sale for the Redmi 8 will take place on October 12 on Mi.com, Flipkart, and Mi Home stores. Along with Redmi 8, Xiaomi also announced that it will be launching a 64-megapixel camera phone on 16 October. This will be the Redmi Note8 Pro that has launched internationally.
