The next big iteration of iOS, the version 12 is now more focussed on performance and new features. Also this release will support the most iOS devices till date, as late from 2013, that is iPhone 5S. The highlight of iOS 12 will be the AR enhancement, Memoji, Group Facetime, Screen Time and Siri shortcuts.

Apple has designed the iOS 12 to be more responsive. For instance, the camera launches up to 70 percent faster, keyboard appears up to 50 percent faster and more responsive. The new ARKit 2 will enable developers to create innovative AR apps.

New Memoji in iOS12

The fun feature that takes Emoji experience to a new level is the Memoji. With Memoji you can create your self version of Emoji within messages. The existing set of Animoji also expands with ghost, koala, tiger and T.rex. All Animoji and Memoji now feature winks and tongue detection to capture even more expressions. New camera effects bring Animoji, Filters, Text and Stickers to Messages and FaceTime.

FaceTime is one of the most loved app that lets iPhone users conduct vidoe chats. However, with this update, Apple brings in the group Facetime. You can now have multiple people in a Facetime call. The maximum number it supports is up to 30 people.

The next new update is the Siri shortcut. Siri intelligence can suggest an action at just the right time — whether it’s to order a coffee in the morning or start an afternoon workout. Users can customize Shortcuts by creating a simple voice command to kick off the task or download the new Shortcuts app to create a series of actions from different apps that can be carried out with a simple tap or customized voice command.

Besides all these, Apple has also introduced a new News App and have enhanced the iBooks app which will now be called Apple Books and the Photo search feature in the Photos app. The Do Not Disturb application is also now updated with new features. While in DND mode, you will not see notifications on the screen and even set up DND mode as per your desired time or schedule. The new Screen Time feature will provide users information on how the device is used and how much time they are or their kids are spending on the apps. One can even set a time limit to the app, especially for kids wherein you want to give them only a few hours of access.

The developer preview of iOS 12 is available to Apple Developer Program members at developer.apple.com starting today, and a public beta program will be available to iOS users later this month at beta.apple.com. iOS 12 will be available this fall as a free software update for iPhone 5s and later, all iPad Air and iPad Pro models, iPad 5th generation, iPad 6th generation, iPad mini 2 and later and iPod touch 6th generation.
