We live in a digital life. Connected devices have today made it possible to learn new things and keeps us entertained. While technology addiction in adults also growing, but it needs special attention when your child starts getting addicted to it. Technology leader Google has now addressed this with Family Link app that gives parents the control on kids technology time. Kids should explore and embark upon a journey that makes them innovative, problem solver and teaches them new things that are trending globally. However, as a parent, we also need to be sure that they do not wander in to the dark side of the online world or spend too much time playing a game on the mobile phone.
With Family Link by Google, you can create your kids google account and also set digital rules to it – like what apps can one download, how much screen time to be provided and also setting a bedtime for your kids.
The Family Link can be downloaded from the Google Play Store, however, it only works on Android Nougat. Once you download and set up a family account for them and sign them to their device. Some of the features that Family Link provides are:
1) Control the apps your kids can use – Approve or block the apps your kid wants to download from the Google Play Store.
2) Keep an eye on their screen time – See how much time your kid spends on their favorite apps with weekly or monthly activity reports, and set daily screen time limits for their device.
3) Set device bedtime – Remotely lock your kid’s device when it’s time to play, study, or sleep.
As of now the Family Link is only available in the US by requesting an invite on https://families.google.com/familylink/. Kids can run Family Link on Android devices running Nougat (7.0) and higher, along with certain Marshmallow (6.1) devices.
