This is the best news you’ll hear if you game on a PS4. Sony today announced their latest v4.5 firmware update for PS4 and with that also detailed some of the new features that are expected with the new firmware update.
The biggest addition to v4.5 is the inclusion of external HDD support. Plug in a USB 3.0 external hard drive and you can expand your PS4’s storage by up to 8TB. Content from the external hard drive will work the same way and users will be able to see it on the home screen.
It’s important to note here that Sony has finally activated the feature after years of denying that it was near impossible.
Other new features in the upcoming software update include custom wallpapers, quick menu refresh, improved notifications list, posting on activity feed and ability to watch 3D Blu-ray movies directly with PS VR.
Sony is actually beta testing this update with users who have enrolled in their beta program but there’s no ETA for regular users.
