Few years back Whatsapp was one of the least secure messaging apps that allowed hackers to read the conversations who had a bit of technical knowledge. But as of yesterday, Whatsapp has enabled end-to-end encryption in their app, making it one of the most secure messaging apps that you can use right now. End-to-end means the message when sent by the sender is encrypted and gets decrypted at the receiver’s end. In simple words, the message the sender sends is locked and the key to open it is only with the receiver.
Wired has a piece on how Whatsapp made all this possible and it’s in fact an interesting article and impressive on Whatsapp’s part is that it’s available to its all billion users who have updated to the latest build and works for chats, multimedia content, voice chats and even calls.
Whatsapp’s decision to turn on the encryption is an timely one considering the recent privacy battle between Apple and FBI.
