Sony sells over 30m PS4s globally

Sony just confirmed to have sold over 30 million PS4 units worldwide. The console that went on sale in late 2013 has sold 30.2 million units as of November 22, 2015, making it one of the most successful PlayStations to have ever launched.

While a huge library and exclusive games attribute to PS4’s success, the console got a good head start against Microsoft’s Xbox One after some missteps by Microsoft with respect to the console’s marketing strategy.

In contrast, Microsoft has stopped sharing Xbox One’s sales numbers with the last official figure coming in November 2014 where the Xbox One crossed the 10 million unit milestone.
