Samsung seems to have acknowledged that its rectangular design for smartwatches might not have worked as expected as the company today unveiled its latest Gear smartwatch with a circular display. The Gear S2 comes in two options – the regular Gear S2 and the Gear S2 classic to cater to two different set of audience with its minimalistic and modern design with the Gear S2 whereas chic looking Gear S2 classic with a black finish and a matching leather band.
Another interesting thing about the Gear S2 is the rotating bezel, complemented with home and back buttons that enables an intuitive user experience.
The 11.4mm Gear S2 is thin and light and runs Tizen, which means the smartwatch won’t work with non-Samsung devices.
As for the hardware, the smartwatch is equipped with a 1.2-inch Circular Super AMOLED 360×360 display, dual-core 1GHz processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB ROM, IP68 certified for resistance against dust and water, Wi-Fi, NFC for Samsung Pay, Bluetooth 4.1, heart rate sensor and 250mAh battery that lasts up to 3 days. Samsung will also sell a 3G version of its Gear S2 smartwatch that will have e-SIM support.
Samsung has not confirmed the availability but will showcase the watches at IFA this week.
