Sony today announced two new variants of its PS4 gaming console. First is the Ultimate Player Edition that now comes with 1TB of internal storage and a new 500GB SKU that is lighter and more power efficient.
As for the Ultimate Player Edition, the 1TB PS4 edition will go on sale in Europe and select PAL regions from July 15 and will offer double the storage, making it par with the recently announced 1TB Xbox One.
Although we don’t have a confirmation, Sony will not likely cut the price of the 500GB SKU to accommodate the larger storage variant.
Meanwhile in Japan, Sony announced a new variant of the 500GB PS4. The CUH-1200 series is now 10 percent lighter and consumes 8 percent less power when compared to the current PS4 model (CUH-1100). The improved PS4 also features a matte finish HDD bay cover.
The new 500GB PS4 will go on retail by end of this month in Japan and will be followed by other regions like North America, Europe and Asia.
The 500GB PS4 is priced at 39,980 yen excluding tax in Japan, $399 in US and 399 euros in Europe.
