Google’s rumoured entry as a carrier is now a reality as the company just announced the Project Fi program. Google says Project Fi is similar to Nexus hardware program where they will work closely with leading carriers and hardware makers for a fast and easy wireless experience.
Sprint and T-Mobile are partnering Google on the Project Fi, which will provide seamless transition from Wi-Fi network to 4G LTE without any fuss. Furthermore, Project Fi allows customers to automatically connect to wireless hotspots with data encryption, thus protecting your browsing habit from sniffing hackers.
The service is currently available only in US and works only with Nexus 6 device. It costs $20 a month for calls, text, Wi-Fi tethering and $10 flat per gigabyte of data. Google will also pay you back, in case a part of your data goes unused for the month.
Chris Taylor says
I’m really interested to see whether Google will make Project Fi available worldwide, it will be good to see what sort of speeds that can be achieved.
